Information on NPP Temelín November 4, 2008

Unit 2 is in operation at planned power level. Unit 1 is in an outage. The auxiliary systems are working in accordance with the operation needs of individual units.

At the final tests prior to the synchronization of Temelín NPP Unit 1 to the national power grid (on October 19, 2008), a damage of a blade and adjacent parts of the impeller occurred at the third low pressure turbine (NT3). The rotor has been disassembled and, on October 24, transported for an inspection and repair to the manufacturing plant Škoda Power in Plzeň. In accordance with the manufacturer's information, the NT3 repair will be completed by the first half of December.

Detailed preventive inspections of both remaining low pressure turbines rotors (NT1 and NT2) are concurrently under way. A material analysis of the ruptured blade that will help to find the reason of the failure is in progress at an independent inspection workplace of ČVUT (Czech Technical University) Prague.
