In Temelín, water was transferred over into another tank than originally planned. An event that the power plant must report to Austria.

In the framework of cleaning, the technicians should have transferred twelve cubic meters of low active water into one of the collection tanks. However, the liquid ended in the collection space of the cleaning station of the auxiliary building. Everything stayed in a closed technology and the event in no way affected the production of electricity, the employees and the environment. But it happened inside the power plant, which shall provide information to the Austrian authorities.

The technology, which is common for both Temelín production units, is used to clean the cooling water. In the course of the treatment, it is transferred into collection tanks and then repeatedly used, e.g. in outages in the framework of the refueling. On Friday morning, it ended in another than originally intended sump. The increased flow into a collection tank of the cleaning station of the auxiliary building has been detected by the plant workers at standard manipulations.

“It is a completely closed technology that is ready for such cases. Nobody was in any way endangered or limited and there is absolutely no impact on the environment,” explains the spokesperson of the plant Marek Sviták.

The representatives of the plant informed of the event the State Office for Nuclear Safety and, in the context of the Melk Agreement, a report will be provided to the Austrian authorities.
