Information on NPP Temelín 117/ 2008

Unit 1 is in operation at planned power level. At Unit 2, a planned outage is under way, that is connected with the annual refueling of 1/4 of the reactor fuel. The auxiliary systems are working in accordance with the operation needs of individual units.

This morning, the hot pressure tests of both the primary and secondary unit parts have been successfully completed. The goal of it was to verify at the pressure of 17,6 MPa in the primary part and at 7,6 MPa in the secondary the leak-tightness of both power plant’s circuits prior to the unit’s restart. The works related to the unit’s restart continue. The outage schedule assumes that Unit 2 will resume its operation at the beginning of July.

During the last weekend, a discrepancy has been found between the checklist and the actual setup of a valve (open instead of closed) in a line from the auxiliary building. The valve has been closed by a machinist. The event was assessed as violation of Technical Specifications.

The operator revealed the event by means of its internal check and assessed preliminary, due to human factor fault, by the level INES 1. State Office for Nuclear Safety  (SÚJB) has been informed of the event and the event will be discussed at the fault commission of the Temelín NPP.

INES 1 = functional or operational deviation (anomaly) from the approved procedures. It represents no risk since the subsequent safety measures are sufficient. It may be caused by a fault of the equipment, by a fault of the servicing crew or by and inadequate operation procedure.
