Information on NPP Temelín 195 / 2008

Unit 2 is in operation at planned power level. At Unit 1, a planned outage is under way, that is connected with the annual refueling of 1/4 of the reactor fuel. The auxiliary systems are working in accordance with the operation needs of individual units.

The power plant's worker succeeded to shorten the last two completed outages of NPP Temelín units 1 and 2 by almost 9 days.  The current outage of Unit 1 will on the contrary be extended by approximately one week. The permanent connection of Unit 1 to the power grid was in the original schedule planned for October 8.

The reasons of the outage extension are unplanned works in the essential service water (ESW) systems that were included only during the outage. Other planned works of this outage are already completed. The need for repairs in two out of three separate systems resulted from the inspection of the ESW systems. The repairs on the third system have been completed yesterday and the system has been brought into operation. Today, power plant's workers started works on the first system.

Essential service water system (ESW)
It is a supporting system designed for theheat removal from the equipment and safetysystems of the units. It has three separate trains. Each of the trains is capable of delivering such water amount (atnormal operation ca. 3000 tons of water per hour) that provides for necessaryheat removal and cooling of the appliances. Individual trains are mutually independentfrom the point of view ofcooling water sources, control and electrical power supply.
