The Temelín Unit 1 produces electricity again. The planned outage lasted two months.

Today at 13 o´clock, Unit 1 of Temelín NPP started to produce electricity again. Operators have connected it to the transmission system after replacing a quarter of the fuel assemblies. Power engineers also checked the safety systems or the turbine. The containment building around the reactor also passed the leak test. They managed 18,000 activities during the shutdown, including 78 investment actions. Together with the Dukovany power plant, all six nuclear units are currently in operation. Unit 1 of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant is now planned to be shut down for inspection and refuelling.

Temelín started to reduce its output in a planned manner and will initiate a two-month shutdown for refuelling on Friday night.

Tonight, Temelin Unit 1 began to reduce its power slowly. Operators will shut down the Unit for scheduled equipment checks and refuelling on Friday evening. During the outage, technicians will conduct 82 dozens of investment actions related to the plant's modernization. In total, ČEZ has nearly 16,000 activities planned for approximately two months during the outage.

The Americans are going to supply nuclear fuel also to Dukovany, not only to Temelín

The American company Westinghouse with a production plant in Sweden will also supply nuclear fuel for the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant from 2024. Currently, only the Russian company TVEL was the only one in the world producing fuel for that type of reactors and supplying it to Dukovan. After the outbreak of war in Ukraine last year, CEZ immediately started negotiations to find a new fuel supplier for security reasons. Westinghouse accelerated the development and the contract signed today is the result.

After preliminary assessment ČEZ has identified two preferred construction sites for small modular reactors, in addition to the Temelín pilot location, in Dětmarovice and Tušimice

ČEZ has tentatively identified two preferred sites for the second and third small modular reactors (SMRs). After the first SMR project at the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant site, SMRs could also be built in Dětmarovice and Tušimice. That is on the sites of current coal-fired power plants, which are being transformed into emission-free sites. As part of Vision 2030, ČEZ Group has committed itself to preparing the construction of small modular reactors with a total capacity of over 1,000 MW after 2040. However, small modular reactors could have been built at these sites as early as the second half of the 1930s. The main purpose of the SMR construction is to ensure a long-term secure supply of stable emission-free energy.
