In accordance with new trends in nuclear energy and with the need to ensure stable and emission-free sources of electricity and heat, to enhance energy self-sufficiency in the Czech Republic and the South-Bohemian Region, it is desirable to pay greater attention to the development of small modular reactors (hereinafter referred to as “SMR”). To that end, ČEZ, a. s. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the South Bohemian Region and ÚJV Řež, a.s. to achieve more significant progress in the sphere of SMR, through synergies of all these entities, i.e., contracting parties, as each contracting party possesses certain know-how and can make a particular contribution to the achievement of these goals.
On the basis of the Memorandum, a limited-liability company “South Bohemian Nuclear Park, s.r.o.” was established , in which ČEZ, a. s. holds a direct capital interest of 40%. The other founders of the subsidiary includes ÚJV Řež, a.s., , having its registered office at Hlavní 130, Řež, 250 68 Husinec, holding an interest in registered capital of 20 %, and the South Bohemian Region (Jihočeský kraj), , having its registered office at U Zimního stadionu 1952/2, 370 76 České Budějovice, holding an interest in registered capital of 40 %.
The primary object of the company is to develop a platform for consultation and for addressing areas requiring resolution in the planning and implementation of the SMR pilot at the Temelín site, in the identification of another suitable site or sites for building an SMR in the South Bohemian region, and for supporting its initial planning and coordination and creating conditions for the cooperation of the public and private sectors and academia, in particular by supporting research and analytics in the energy sector.
