The ČEZ Group supports life in the regions in which it operates.
We invest in local communities through one of the country’s largest foundations – the ČEZ Foundation. We contribute to social events in the areas near our power plants and other operations, build playgrounds, and also safe crosswalks.
Through Staff Grants, we support non-profits in which our employees volunteer. In the South Moravian and Vysočina regions, we have thus supported 157 projects, by giving them a total of CZK 4,635,107.
In addition to our staff’s activities in local organisations, we also support charitable projects. These projects may involve support for children and youth, healthcare, social care, persons with handicaps, science, education, culture, sports, or the environment. In the last five years, we supported 697 projects in the South Moravian and Vysočina regions, worth CZK 146,139,568.
For example, between 2011 and 2022, we have planted nearly 14,000 trees in the broader vicinity of the Dukovany nuclear power plant. Between 2004 and 2022, we built Orange Playgrounds worth more than 93 million crowns. Orange crossings, worth 4.6 million crowns, were built between 2013 and 2022.
Children’s days, celebrating municipal anniversaries, reunions of local patriots, as well as various sports competitions and social or cultural events.
Those are only a few examples of the hundreds of events that annually take place in the areas around our nuclear power plants under the Orange Year banner. According to representatives from local governments, this unusual project significantly enhances the activities of individual associations, sports clubs, and cultural and other organisations. ČEZ does not give donate funds solely for the most important sports, cultural, or social events, but also for projects that “merely” involve local residents. And that is very important for community life, especially in smaller municipalities. In the Temelín area, ČEZ has provided more than a hundred million crowns in nearly twenty years. And municipalities in the Dukovany area received a similar amount.
Firefighters from the Dukovany nuclear power plant routinely intervene outside of the power plant’s grounds. In 2022, they were called to a total of 61 interventions. Outside of the power plant, Dukovany firefighters assist primarily in traffic accidents, saving human lives, but also providing technical assistance. In view of the growing number of interventions in area around the power plant, ČEZ has equipped the Dukovany firefighting unit with two vehicles equipped with everything that is required for a professional intervention, including hydraulic cutters, AED defibrillators, and climbing group equipment.
A range of medical services is provided on the grounds of the Dukovany NPP, which are frequently used by inhabitants from surrounding villages. The public use the services of the medical centre that offers surgeries of general practitioners as well as dental surgeries, a pharmacy, an optometrist’s shop, physiotherapy, but also blood laboratory tests. In the afternoons and at night and on weekends, the region’s inhabitants can also take advantage of the important medical first aid service.
A post office and a flower and gift shop are available to the power plant’s staff as well as the region’s inhabitants on the grounds of the Dukovany PP. Another bonus appreciated by the region’s inhabitants is the possibility to use the bus service contracted by the power plant, which improves transportation services and possibilities for people living in the region.
