At Unit 1, a planned outage is under way, that is connected with the annual refueling of the reactor fuel. The auxiliary systems are working in accordance with the operation needs of individual units. Today, the Nuclear Power Plant Temelín started a Unit 2 outage.
In the course of nine days, they will perform a repair of a gland in the generator sealing oil system. „It is a preventive repair that will help us to avoid a future unplanned Unit outage. The current conditions in the power distribution grid are favorable for such short term outage since the electricity consumption is now lower than e.g. in winter months, “says Marek Sviták, the Press Officer of the Temelín NPP.
Originally, the power plant Temelín planned to shutdown the Unit 2 tonight. They decided to shut it down earlier, when they found an increased flow of process water into the special sewerage in the containment. The probable cause of it was a failure of a backflow valve in the special sewerage of Unit 2. „Analyses have shown that it was not the primary water, “adds Sviták. The water was brought by the special sewerage into the collection tank in compliance with the design. It is an operation event without any impact on safety.
