New Year's press conference of the Dukovany
Nuclear Power Plant
2009

The year 2008 belonged among successful years in the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant. The shortest type outage in the duration of 20 days was tested at the very beginning of 2008 and power at the last of 4 Units of the nuclear power plant was increased. At the same time the new record production reached 14 billion and 447.5 million kilowatt-hours.

2008
Operation of the nuclear power plant in 2008 was generally evaluated as safe and reliable. According to WANO indicator results the power plant joined 20% of the best operated nuclear units using a pressurized water reactor.

In 2008 we also vindicated the title Safe Company and Ecological Company - ISO 14001. As far as further long-term operation is concerned we vindicated the 2015-2045 long-term operation within the audit - the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna) mission.
It is the first internationally approved step for obtaining a license for operation over the designed durability.

Two stators for increase of Unit 3 power from the existing 460MW up to approximately 500MW arrived in the Dukovany NPP at the end of the year. This increase is a fulfilment of the ČEZ Group "Safely 16 Tera EDU" key program, of which target is securing of annual production of 16 terawatt-hours from the Dukovany NPP in 2012. Increase of efficiency of all 4 units, use of designed power reserves of the units and better efficiency of the outage mode will contribute to such high production.

The power plant did well also as far as public relations are concerned. Information centres of the Dukovany NPP and Dalešice, the 6 km distant cooperating pumped-storage hydroelectric power station, experienced in total 41,003 visitors.

2009
Municipalities as well as the Vysočina (Highlands) region support the long-term operation of the power plant and its possible enlargement with new units. Together with the Dukovany nuclear power plant they joined the rejuvenation initiative of the power plant consisting in a support of young people to study technical fields. In future the power plant shall need replacement of tens its employees who will retire. In case the operation is extended, thousands of temporary jobs (for construction and erection) and approximately 500 permanent jobs will be created.

In mid 2009 the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant will reach the production base of 300 billion kilowatt-hours from its start. The ones that can count know that it has already paid off many times.
