CEZ has qualified into tender in Romanian Galati

CEZ has received a decision of the Romanian company SC Electrocentrale Galati SA which has qualified the company into the tender for the strategic partner for modernization of existing plant or/and construction of a new plant in Romanian Galati. CEZ Power Company is thus entitled to submit its final offer under this tender. The next steps and the date for the submitting of the final offer has not been fixed yet.

The tender for a strategic partner in the present plant modernization project and potentially for construction of new resources in the area was announced by the state-owned energy company Termoelectrica, which operates thermal power plants in Romania. CEZ Power Company submitted documents confirming fulfilment of entry conditions into the tender under its pre-qualifying round and expressed an interest it this project.

The installed capacity of the present plant in the area of SC Electrocentrale Galati SA reaches 535 MW (3x105 MW, 2x60 MW, 1x100 MW). SC Electrocentrale Galati SA is 100% owned by Termoelectrica.

CEZ Group has been operating in Romania since 2005, when it acquired the distribution company Electrica Oltenia that has undergone unbundling that is a separation of regulated electricity distribution activities from its sale. On March 15, 2007, selling company CEZ Vanzare (similar to CEZ Prodej/CEZ Sales in the Czech Republic) was detached from it, and the name of Electrica Oltenia was changed to CEZ Distributie. The company will be engaged only in the regulated electricity distribution activity. Last year, the operating profit of Electrica Oltenia grew year-on-yearly by 142 % to nearly two billion crowns.
