Information on NPP Temelín 150 / 2007

Unit 1 is in operation at planned power level. Unit 1 will operate at the full power till tomorrow evening 18:30 o’clock, when the operations personnel will start to reduce its power. At 21:00 o’clock, Unit 1 will be switched off the distribution grid and, on August 4, the planned two-months‘ outage will be started.

August 2, 2007

About ¼ of the reactor fuel will be replaced in its course. Just like during the first outage of Unit 1 in this year and during the subsequent outage of Unit 2 the new, modernized nuclear fuel will be used. The most important work in the non-nuclear part of the Unit will be the implementation of the modernization of the flow-through part of the high pressure turbine. The ČEZ company expects a turbine set output increase by at least 3 per cent after this modification. The same turbine alteration has been successfully carried out during the past Unit 2 outage. The turbine modernization is, in the same time, one of the greatest ecology investments of ČEZ in this year. The electricity production in the nuclear energy industry produces no greenhouse gases. After the modification completion at Unit 1, the installed power of Temelín will increase by 52 MW. This corresponds almost to the installed output of the wind power plants in the Czech Republic that was 57,11 MW as to May 31 this year. Temelín will produce 350 thousand MWhrs of electricity per year from the increased installed power without releasing 350 thousand tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
