Information on NPP Temelín 90 / 2008

Unit 1 is in operation at full rated power. At Unit 2 the planned outage started one day earlier. The auxiliary systems of the power plant are working in accordance with the operation needs.

On Wednesday night there was an automatic reactor power decrease to the level of 35 % at Unit 2 and the turbine generator was disconnected from the grid. The reason was a failure at the generator protective equipment system in the electric part of the unit. It has by one day speeded the transition to the planned two month outage which is involved in the refueling. Its schedule includes more than six thousand activities to be performed by thousand workers. 30 supplier companies will participate on the outage.

The most important works include the regular annual replacement of approximately ¼ of the reactor fuel. The modernized fuel assemblies will be used this year, too. They have been for the first time put into the reactor last year. After the termination of the current outage, 91 modernized fuel assemblies will work in each of the reactors.

Unit 1will be shutdown for three months at the beginning of July. Also, the periodical inspection of the reactor pressure vessel  will be performed in the course of this extended outage.
