Unit 1 of Temelín produces electricity again

Today, shortly after noon, operating personnel connected Unit 1 of the Temelín power plant to the transmission system. It was shut down on December 24 due to repairs in the part of the generator cooling in the non-nuclear part of the power plant.

The need to repair the part of the cooling of the electric generator resulted from power changes in Unit 1 shortly before Christmas. After cooling down the equipment, the inspections specified the scope of work. “Our supplier, the Brush company, has resealed the penetrations in the generator cooling system and ČEZ Energoservis has replaced a part of the pipeline in the generator auxiliary system. From the point of view of electricity consumption, Christmas was advantageous for carrying out the work, in terms of working capacity it was more demanding. Thanks to the helpfulness and excellent work of our suppliers, we managed everything necessary in the shortest possible time,” said Jan Kruml, Director of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant.

ČEZ and its suppliers involved eighty people. For example, the Brush company had to send a team of six people from Pilsen to Temelín. “We did not count on it, however, we have put the necessary capacity together during the Christmas holidays,” said Jiří Soudek, regional manager of the Brush company.

Also, Doosan Škoda Power called fifteen people to work for the adaptation of the turbine settings. “Temelín is an important partner for us and we must be ready to deal with problems even in the period when most people spend their time with their families,” said Jiří Šmondrk, managing director and CEO of Doosan Škoda Power.

The lower power plant output did not affect the consumers. During the Christmas season, electricity consumption is approximately one third lower than in the normal period.
