Ales Tomec appointed the new director in charge of hydro-power plants

The Monday meeting of CEZ Executive Board approved Ales Tomec as the newly appointed director of CEZ organisational unit - Hydro-Power Plants. Mr. Tomec was offered this job when he was leaving his position of the Chairman of the Executive Board and the General Director of CEPS, a. s. Ales Tomec assumed his responsibilities in the new position as of January 15, 2002.

 

The Monday meeting of CEZ Executive Board approved Ales Tomec as the newly appointed director of CEZ organisational unit Hydro-Power Plants. Mr. Tomec was offered this job when he was leaving his position of the Chairman of the Executive Board and the General Director of CEPS, a. s. Ales Tomec assumed his responsibilities in the new position as of January 15, 2002. The Executive Board also asked Mr. Tomec to consider whether his membership in the Executive Board of Operator - a company operating in the electricity market - does not endanger the launch of the new institution. During the next few days Mr. Tomec will ask the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, i.e. the establisher of the market operator, to analyse and evaluate this fact. The former director of CEZ hydropower plants, Mr. Jiri Cerny, was appointed to the position of the director of Melnik Power Plant at the end of the last year.

Ing. Ales Tomec (born in 1957) graduated from the Electro-technical faculty of the Technical University in Prague (CVUT), where he majored in the construction of electric machinery. He worked for two years in Skodaexport a foreign trade company as an independent official responsible for commercial agenda.

In 1983 he began to work in the dispatching section of CeskĂ© energetickĂ© zavody (Czech Power Company). Here he gradually experienced the work in all of the sub-sections network preparation and production, protection and automated systems and the evaluation and analysis sections. In 1991 he started to work in the Czechoslovak Power Control System, first as the head of the department charged with preparing the operation and international cooperation, and in 1993 he became the head of the section responsible for operation of the system. In May 1994 he was appointed to the position of a director of the Central Dispatching and in May 1997 he became the Executive Director of the CEZ Transmission Network Division and the Deputy General Manager. In the period between February 22, 1996 and January 29. 1, 1998 he was a member of the CEZ Executive Board.

In addition to these positions Ales Tomec was also a member of the steering committee and the CENTREL Council, the president of the Central Dispatching Organisation (CDO) and in October last year he was elected the vice-president of UCTE (he has already abdicated of this office). The new director is a member of the Scientific Board and the Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of the joint-stock company Operator functioning in the electricity market.
