In addition to financial indicators, such as revenue, profit, or debt ratio, non-financial data are increasingly important for investors and banks, as well as employees, customers, and the public. These data reflect how a company manages environmental, social, and governance issues.
CEZ Group is the first energy company in the Czech Republic to provide all ESG data in an easy-to-use fashion, and in one place on its website, using the interactive data library. Anyone can retrieve the data in the form of a table or a chart. In both cases, the data can be downloaded for further use.
“ESG is developing rapidly, and sometimes it can be confusing to make sense of all the terms and indicators. We value openness and transparency and publish online all the ESG data that we have provided to rating agencies, investors, banks, and insurance companies over the past three years. We plan to gradually expand our database,” says Kateřina Bohuslavová, Chief Sustainability Officer of CEZ Group.
All data in the online library were processed using a unified methodology and externally audited. The database includes all the greenhouse gases mentioned by the Kyoto Protocol. Emissions from coal sources are measured continuously directly in production. Data from pollution measurements are included in the ISKO database operated on the national level by the Czech Institute of Hydrometeorology.
Data from previous years continue to be publicly accessible in annual reports and other CEZ Group documents published on the website. For example, data about sulphur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions have been disclosed since the establishment of CEZ in 1992 (including a comparison with the period of 1980-1992), and CO2 emissions since 2004. In the same year, CEZ first published its water management statistics.
Users of the library will welcome the possibility to filter data based on specific international standards: for example, the Global Sustainability Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The data is divided into four sections: environmental, social, governance, and general. Each section contains alphabetically listed indicators. One of the main advantages of the library is that it compiles both mandatory and optional disclosures from various CEZ Group companies. In total, more than 770 items of numerical data are available.
The data library was developed by the ESG Office and created in the Next.js framework – a technological solution used by companies such as Meta, Netflix, Airbnb, and Walmart. Its main advantage is that pages load faster.
CEZ Group developed its ambitious Vision 2030 strategy, announced two years ago, in line with ESG principles. Last year, CEZ declared they would achieve climatic neutrality by 2040, which is 10 years before the original deadline. CEZ Group’s ambition is to be among the 20% best companies in the global ESG rating of energy companies.
