CEZ has placed a bid for Romanian Borzesti

CEZ Power Company has today submitted an offer for construction of a new unit in the locality of Borzesti. Tender has been announced by the state-owned energy company Termoelectrica, which operates thermal power plants in Romania.

No details will be published concerning content of the bid. Lat week, CEZ also submitted an offer for a strategic partner in the existing plant modernization project and potentially for construction of a new unit in Romanian Galati.

CEZ Group has been operating in Romania since 2005, when it acquired the distribution and supply company Electrica Oltenia that has undergone unbundling, that is a separation of regulated electricity distribution activities from its sale. On March 15, 2007, supply company CEZ Vanzare (similar to CEZ Prodej in the Czech Republic) was detached from it, and the name of Electrica Oltenia was changed to CEZ Distributie. The company will be engaged only in the regulated electricity distribution activity. In 2006, the operating profit of Electrica Oltenia grew year-on-yearly by 142 % to nearly two billion crowns.
