The actual disconnection of Unit 2 generator from the transmission system is planned for today evening at approximately one-third of the reactor's output. According to the power plant management, this will be a standard outage associated with important checks and investment activities. At the same time, the plant will switch to a longer fuel campaign.
"We will replace 54 of the total 163 fuel assemblies, which is six more assemblies than during the last outage. This will allow the unit to operate for two months longer. We will also check safety systems, the turbine and the backup diesel generator, for example. At the end of the outage, we will check the containment building around the reactor,"
The power engineers will continue to modernize the plant. For example, the generator rotor will be replaced, the important safety system that provides power to the backup batteries will be upgraded and the plant's control system will continue to be modernized. In total, 74 capital projects are planned for the outage. This year, CEZ will invest CZK 4.1 billion in modernization.
"The importance of nuclear power plants is growing all over the world, and the Czech Republic is no exception. That is why we have to take care of the current Temelín and Dukovany units so that they can be in operation for at least sixty years. And continuous modernization is one of the main ways to achieve this,"
Including the external suppliers, around a thousand people are involved in the outage works. The Unit 1 was shut down for two months for fuel checks and replacements from early April to early June.
Since the beginning of the year, the Temelín power plant has produced 4.7 terawatt hours of electricity. Together with Dukovany, these are sources that produce the largest amount of clean electricity and thus contribute significantly to ČEZ Group's emission-free production. Annually, approximately two tens of millions of tons of CO2 have not been released into the atmosphere thanks to nuclear power plants.
