In February CEZ Group will deliver electricity to Albania

CEZ Power Company and the Albanian power company KESH have concluded a contract about February electricity supply. This first trial supply might be followed by larger supplies in next months.

Electricity for Albania will flow across Serbia from the Hungarian market, where CEZ Group has had an open trade agency for over a year and where it is actively trading across all Hungarian borders, said Alan Svoboda, Chief Sales Officer CEZ.

In the last several years, Albania has been going through a huge lack of electricity caused by failure of investments into construction of power plants in the past decades. Yearly Albania produces ca 5 TWh of electricity while the yearly consumtion, despite limited deliveries to end customers, reaches ca 7,5 TWh.

The situation concerning electricity supplies traditionally gets much worse in winter months. Electricity supply to the customers in Albania had to be limited this January as well, namely to the extent of 12-13 hours a day (in Tirana, the capital, to the extent of 4-5 hours a day).

CEZ Group deals in electricity in 9 countries of Central and South-Eastern Europe. In addition to the Czech Republic, CEZ holds licences for electricity trading in Poland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Kosovo and Slovakia.

CEZ Group continues to fulfil its vision of becoming a leader on electricity markets in Central and South-Eastern Europe. That does not concern only expansion through acquisitions, but also development of business positions and cross-border trading as well as trading inside single countries.
