Stechovice pumped-storage power plant has been re-launched

Yesterday, 25 November, saw the re-launch of one of those turbo-sets on the Vltava Cascade that were most seriously damaged by last year´s floods the TG3 set of the Stechovice pumped-storage power plant, with the capacity of 45 MW. The set was put into operation several weeks ahead of schedule.

Last year's floods damaged all three sets of the Stechovice power plant. The first 11.25 MW set was re-launched this June. The remaining set to be re-launched (also with the capacity of 11.25 MW) is currently being overhauled and should be put into operation next year. The sets had been completely flooded by strongly contaminated water, which is why all their parts had to be dismantled, cleaned, repaired and some of them even replaced. It was also necessary to replace the entire control system, electric regulator protection units and all security systems, says Ales Tomec, the Head of the CEZ Hydropower Plant Department, in connection with this issue.

The repairs were successfully completed thanks to the effort of CEZ employees, with the help of the following supplier companies: CKD Blansko Engineering, a. s., Brush Plzen, SAT Praha, EMG Plzen.

The only power plant to remain out of operation due to last year's floods is the 4-unit Orlik power plant, the largest power plant in the Vltava Cascade (with an installed capacity of 4 x 91 MW). The first Orlik unit should be put into operation this year, the other three will be re-launched next year.

The overall damages, inflicted on CEZ power plants last year's floods, have already exceeded 0.5 billion CZK.
