The jury of the prestigious competition, comprising 25 distinguished experts, chose the CEZ Group interactive ESG Data Library, launched last year, as the winner of the Reporting and Transparency category. The platform provides access to an extensive database of nearly 1,800 indicators spanning the period from 2018 to 2022, encompassing areas relating to the environmental, social, and corporate governance issues. It is the most extensive database of non-financial indicators from European energy companies.
The competition was fierce, with more than 90 companies submitting projects in the same category and only 12 projects making it to the shortlist. Among others, the CEZ Group competed with telecommunications giant Deutsche Telecom, major Scandinavian retail bank Danske Bank, global pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, or global data centre operator CyrusOne. A total of 700 companies from 52 countries registered to compete in the Reuters Responsible Business Awards 2023.
“Sustainability is a huge topic, and it really is a great honour for me to accept this award which confirms that Czech companies are not only able to keep up with global players in terms of their ESG activities, but also to serve as a source of inspiration and act as a role model for them. CEZ has very ambitious goals in the field of sustainability and one of the key pillars is transparent reporting on how we are managing to achieve them. This award is testament to the efforts of all those who created the ESG Data Library project and help to continuously improve and expand it,” said Michaela Chaloupková, Member of the Board of Directors and Chief Sustainability Officer.
The CEZ Group has specifically built its ambitious Vision 2030 - Clean Energy of Tomorrow strategy, announced two years ago, to be firmly rooted in the principles of sustainability. For example, the group pledged last year to achieve climate neutrality by 2040, a decade ahead of the original target.
The CEZ Group ESG Data Library is available in English and Czech on the website. Users can filter the data according to specific international standards or by thematic chapters (the environment, social, governance and general indicators). The data can be viewed either as a table or as a line or bar chart, all of which are free to download.
